Questions?
Where do I pick-up and drop-off my child?
What if my child is sick?
It is very important to have your child attend school regularly and on time. Much of what we do in class cannot be made up at home. Please have your child in school by 7:40 a.m. If your child will be absent, please call the school or submit the absence online.
Will my child eat at school?
Every child will receive free breakfast. Lunch is also free to all prekindergarten scholars. For more information about meals, please visit the Food Services web page.
How will I know how my child is doing each day?
Each child will receive a new behavior card at the beginning of each 2-week period. The behavior card is a nonnegotiable school-wide behavior system that allows teachers and parents to monitor the behavior of our scholars. It also creates consistency among all grade levels. Scholars may receive a variety of positive/negative marks on their card. Cards go home each day and should be returned the next day. If the white card is not returned to school, a new color card will be given with an “unprepared” mark. This is also the school-wide standard. Please help your child remember to bring the card each day. It is a joint-responsibility. In addition, take a moment to sign your child's behavior card each day. It’s a great way to talk about the school day. A school-wide award is given to scholars who receive all positives for each 2-week period. If your child has ongoing behavior issues, you may be contacted to discuss matters further. I welcome your comments and ask for your support in helping our scholars be successful!
What is the Daily Folder?
Folders are sent home each day in order to keep up with behavior cards. On Tuesdays, I will send home a newsletter, homework assignment, your child's work, and any other notes from the school. Please send the empty folder back to school the next day.
What clothes should I send with my child?
All students should wear sneakers or closed toe shoes each day because we will play and run outside. Sandals and slick bottom shoes can cause injuries and are not the safest choice. Please be sure to dress your child appropriately as the weather changes. Please put an extra set of clothes (including socks and underwear) in a Ziploc bag in your child's backpack in case of an emergency. If there is an accident, I will send the dirty clothes home and ask that you put a clean set in the Ziploc bag. Be sure to label all belongings, as many items look similar.
Can my child bring toys to school?
Toys should not be brought to school, unless requested for an assignment. I have many materials for all children to use. Toys from home can get lost or broken and cause great sadness. In addition, school items are not to be brought home. If you believe your child brought something home in error, please let me know.
What if it's my child's birthday?
Birthdays are always a special time! They will be acknowledged in our classroom; although, we do not have "Birthday Parties" at school. If you would like to send "goody bags" or something small, please contact me before hand. We are allowed to pass these out at the very end of the day. No cakes, cupcakes, or food items can be brought on these days. The exception to this rule is on school-wide party days (Winter Holiday, Valentine's Day and Last Day of School).
How can I become a volunteer?
There are many different ways that you can help in our classroom: 1) Assisting with field trips, special activities and class parties, 2) Preparing project materials at home (stapling, cutting, sorting), or 3) Assisting with school-wide events (Field Day, PTA, Family Fitness Night). If you would like to be a volunteer, you will need to go to the AME web site to complete the volunteer application process to become an approved volunteer. To attend a field trip/volunteer in our classroom, you must be registered in the RRISD system. This must be done each year.
- Busses arrive at the side entrance (closest to our classroom), and car riders arrive in the front of the school. If you want to walk your child in each day, please do not park in the faculty parking lot or block the bus lane. You may park on the street in front of the school. If you choose to go through the car line, your child will be escorted to the cafeteria by an adult.
- For dismissal, bus riders will be taken to the front entrance of the school. Parent pick-up will be at the side entrance. Parents going through the car rider line must wait in the car rider line at all times (no "cutting" the line). Your child's name will be called out once you reach the front, and someone will escort your child to the car. It's helpful if you have your child's dashboard sign visible during pick-up. If you need to get out of the car for any reason, please pull all the way up to the front of the line in order to keep the line flowing smoothly.
